Additional Information
Founded in 1989, Boulevard Brewing Company has grown to become the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest. Our mission is simple: to produce fresh, flavorful beers using the finest traditional ingredients and the best of both old and new brewing techniques. We offer six beers year-round: Pale Ale, Unfiltered Wheat Beer, Lunar Ale, Single-Wide I.P.A., Bully! Porter, and Dry Stout. Watch for our seasonal beers: Irish Ale in early spring, Maibock in the late spring, ZŌN in summer, Bob’s ’47 in the fall, and our winter holiday treat, Nutcracker Ale. The Smokestack Series, our line of artisanal beers available since 2007, includes both permanent selections and limited edition brews.
The Boulevard story begins in 1988, when founder John McDonald started construction of the brewery in a turn-of-the-century brick building on Kansas City’s historic Southwest Boulevard. A vintage Bavarian brewhouse was installed, and the first batches of beer were produced in the fall of 1989. That November, the first keg of Boulevard Pale Ale was delivered—in the back of John's pickup truck—to a restaurant just a few blocks away.

I have been enjoying their beer for many years. My most recent tour showed off their new renovations. Very impressive. The tap room is nice. They have numerous beers to sample including the new releases. I'm looking forward to returning.

I have toured this brewery 10 or 15 times in the last 15 years. About half the time they have a test brew on tap. This was first brewery I tasted a bourbon barrel age beer at and that was 5 years. The tours starts out with the history of brewery, then a video on brewing beer, it is one of the best overview of brewing beer had at brewery. They a short tour through the facility and finally tastings. They limit the tasting by time and not quantity. I normally have enough time to sample 5 or 6 (4 oz) beers. Now that they have the Smoke Stack series, they seem to have on tap at the brewery all the time.
