Commercial Description

In the tradition of India Pale Ale's(IPA's), this copper colored ale is floral, medium bodied, with a distinct hop finish. Originally our summer seasonal in 1993, it is now available year-round. Harpoon IPA was ranked atop both domestic and imported IPA's by Beer Connoisseur Magazine.

General Lee pretty much got the description of the beer down, except I would say that it is a little "thinner" than other standard IPAs (Sierra Nevada, Dogfish Head, etc.) and lacks the floral, hoppy smell that makes a good IPA stand out.

It pours a deep golden color with a big, thick, and white head that makes nice lace on the glass. A floral bouquet of hops fills the nose. The hops are flavorful with pine and citrus notes over a light toasted and biscuity malt taste. The palate is medium bodied with good carbonation and a hopy bitterness that lingers on the tongue and begs you to take anther sip. Its not over the top hoppy but they are main show here which is how I like an IPA to be.

A nice balanced ipa but not very hoppy. Smooth floral flavor with a slight bitter finish but almost sweet. Very nice amber color and a great beer to have with burgers.
