  • Brief Bio:
"The Fermentation" (Phil) was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. I began drinking beer before I can legally admit to it, but didn't get the palette for a good beer until the summer of 2002. The 1st micro-beer I ever had was Young's Chocolate Stout; and I thought it was gross. While I have matured since then im still not a huge fan of stouts. I am an avid home-brewer, and love experimenting with different types of ingredients to push my beer to the limits. My palette is geared more towards Ales, inparticular IPA's. I am a true Hop-Head at heart, and an avid HomeBrewer!

Not gonna lie I was supper excited to see some Upland Bottle Caps when I opened my box from The Original Craft Beer Club. Ever since I read some reviews of their beers from another friends running/beer/life blog I was salivating at the mouth to get this beer in my belly. What blog is that? Well it is Cheaper than Therapy, one of my favorite daily reads! Check it out.

OK, enough plugs….you are here to read about beer not me kissing ass. Beer was good….DONE! That’s what you get for not putting up with my ass kissing!

Seriously, it was a smooth IPA. The dough-y like qualities in the nose came through in the taste of the beer and sort-a over powered the hops, which was a disappointment. Regardless, it was a solid drink. I don’t think it would make it into my regular routine of IPA’s but it is pretty close. A good beer to drink outdoors though!

I had a good Beer Bud bring some assorted goodies back from GA as she made her way down to South Florida. So thanks Amie!
That said, why is there soo much hype over this beer?!? Seriously. Why is it that people flip out over this average or below average beer. I had this a long time ago when I was out in Texas for a Football Game. Yep it was pretty cool, I was able to drink a bomber of the bad boy out of a brown paper bag….I think I had it all figured out. This beer IMO needs to be drank out of a brown paper bag, and should be sold in gas stations (like it is) next to the 40oz of Schlitz. It really isn’t that good.
Tons of malt attack the palate and then you get almost a piney nut taste. I don’t see the hype.

Ahh, an old friend. This was one of the beers that broke me into the IPA style of beer. This is a very balanced single IPA. The malt backing is present and a nice balance of hops. It has a good medium body, but is still easy to drink. It’s just a nice refreshing beer for a warm day, or hell any day.

First I will ask the question, what is the deal with the guy wearing underwear on this bottle? Anyone else get mildly turned off by this? Like when your shopping for beer and looking for something new, you would be like “ohh hey look a man in underwear on a bottle…lets buy this one!” I have talked about Smuttynose’s labels before and how I thought they all looked like Stone Temple Pilot Album Covers. This one is just odd.
The beer inside was good, but not great. It seemed like a straight forward IPA, there was a nice hop presence with a solid malt backing. The 9.6% ABV was hidden well in this one though….maybe that’s what the guy is smuggling in his underwear…(sorry that was bad, and I will even admit it). Thing is with IPA’s its really show up big or go home. Average just won’t cut it. I think it is time for Big A to go home and put some pants on.

Well like every other beer I will have to judge this beer in comparison to other Pale Ales. The label has the Alpha King like bathing in his beer. I think I could bathe in this beer as well. It really is one of the most balanced Pale Ales I have had. The hops are strong on the attack, and the malt backing is strong enough to support it. There is a strong citrus attack, and the beer ends with a nice dry roasty taste on the palette. Category wise, I’d have to say it is pretty damn good!

Good entry level beer for someone that may think they want to get into craft and out of Bud/Miller/Coors

Spoiler Alert (IT'S A COORS OWNED BEER!)

Super Tart, not for the beginner in a Sour Category. Typically has some carbonation issues with the beer.

If you like lemon warheads as a kid, this beer is for you.

Warning try not to smell it too much!

Good Beer, but a little light for my tasting. Its amazing how similar the guys from the buddha got this beer to tasting lager-ish. Very light ale. Extremely session-able
