This isn't one of my favorite breweries. In fact their Milk Stout is claimed as one of the best beers, when in fact it really isn't that great and has a bitter sour taste to it at the end of the day.
While some may think the beers made at this Brewery are for a "true" beer for the connoisseur, I would argue these beers are masquerading as premium craft beers. Look elsewhere for quality drinks like Stone or Dogfish.
This beer I had to have - its a limited release and recently came to the east coast.
When I had it, I made a huge error and had the Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale right before drinking it. Needless to say that Pale Ale overwhelmed the palate and this beer tasted skunky. After about 15 minutes and lots of bread, the beer returned to a somewhat normal flavor - but I still wasn't impressed.
It is an interesting taste though - who makes beer from passion fruit anyways? I'd recommend trying it, but I certainly wouldn't put it into my regular rotation.
Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale is a great beer. I've had out of a bottle and in a traditional glass as well - but for some reason it tastes better out of the bottle.
I ended up having the beer in Virginia which is a ways away from Hawaii - so it was quite a treat. The beer is a bit lighter than a Sierra Nevada - so I would drink it if you don't like the rough bite. It has a good finish and hey - its from Hawaii so its automatically cool.
If you find one in the states - pick up a six pack, definitely won't regret it!
More of a retro place, once you walk into the bar - you feel like you are back in the 80's. The antique logos of past beer champions, the wooden chairs, and even the 80's music tracks (at least for the most part) add to the atmosphere.
The bartenders are very knowledgeable about what beers they have and what they taste like (must be a great job!). Most of the beers on the beer list aren't actually in the bar, but they have additional ones that aren't on the menu that compensate for it (i.e. Goose Island, when I last went there).
This a great spot to find craft beers from around the nation.
Dogfish head - a great brewery in the US. Their 60, 90, 120 minute IPA are the classic ones that I remember drinking.
However, they have a wide range of other beers including Aprihops - which adds a nice hoppy spring beer, or their Pumpkin Ale which is just in time for Halloween. These guys have a great lineup and most of these beers tend to be available along the east coast.
The beers that you don't recognize on this list - well they should be recommended to your local distributor so stores around your area can start getting all these beers! Cheers!
