This was the second bottle of Blue Moon’s Grand Cru I’ve tried, I thought that I’d re-visit it in case it was better than last years… It was not. All this is, is a feeble attempt by Coors to make a higher ABV, big bottle (which = overly expensive) seasonal beer.

It’s as though they took the normal White Ale recipe and put it on steroids. There is too much coriander and not enough citrus (when I pay this much for a beer I shouldn’t have to add an orange to it).

Simply put it’s not worth the price.

I'm not really sure what they were trying to accomplish with this beer.. If they are trying to pay homage to the classic Bass and Guinness combination or if it's supposed to be competing against it either way it fails. Most of the fun in the B&T is the fact that the beers stay separated (if poured correctly). And this just doesn't cut the mustard. It's not smooth as it should be and the flavours as a whole seem to be off. If you want a B&T go to a "reputable" Irish pub and get one this is no substitute. This beer is average on a good day...

Much like the Sammy’s Taddy Porter and Oatmeal Stout, this is EXACTLY what a nut brown ale should be. This is what home brewers and craft brewers compare their nut brown’s too but anyway off my soap-box.

In a word perfect. It has the perfect reddish-brown body with a solid lacing. It smells… Nutty! It tastes… Nutty! It’s wonderful, a nice smooth and buttery mouthfeel with all of the hazelnut flavours dancing on your tongue. Simply a joy!

    A world class brew!

A really dark brown with a creamy off-white head. It both smells and tastes like creamy coffee and roasted malts with a slight chocolaty hint. It has an amazing texture and it never comes off as being too heavy or sweet. A delightful Sammy Smith brew.

An absolute classic, one the first world-class stouts I ever had a chance to get my (most likely not legal) hands on! This one holds a special place in my heart.

It’s a wonderful blackness and only when held to light can you see through. It retains a gorgeous light brown lacing the entire time. It has a beautiful dark malt scent mixed with dark cherries and coffee and sweet chocolate. It is dark and delicious, it really is a perfect example of an oatmeal stout. The black cherry notes in the aroma can be found mid tongue. There really is no sweetness in the flavour despite the aroma. I picked up a bottle (or 4) of this because we have a ridiculous thunderstorm coming in and as it turned out it was the prefect brew to weather the storm!

    Stay thirsty!

Poured a huge head (perhaps I was a bit to vigorous). It pours an orangish-amber colour. It smells a bit floral perhaps rosy, with a touch of an alcohol scent. Not bad but not great either. Doesn’t come off as your typical IPA especially not a DIPA, it has a starts with a citrus-hop flavour and it comes off a bit spicy, the malts can be tasted in the middle and it ends a little sweet almost bread-y. Not super smooth or “easy” to drink but still I think it’s worth a try. I haven’t had a Lagunitas I wouldn’t recommend.

As DosBeerigos stated last year this isn’t the hoppy beer to end all hoppy beer’s as the name would suggest but it definitely is a hop monster. It pours a light amber with very little head. It has a citrusy hopped aroma with some sweet malt undertones. Ths initial taste is all hoppy bitters that mellow out mid-way through only to leave you with a hoppy aftertaste that leave you wanting more. The hop oils are noticeable in the mouth. This is not the MOST hoppy beer I’ve had but as I’ve stated before I’m no hop-head so this is about my limit. Terrapin also has a Hopped-Up Hopsecutioner that is the same thing only with some extra dry-hopping if that’s up your alley… For me this is good enough.

    Cheers!

Pours a nice dark brown that shows it‘s clarity under light. It retains a decent head throughout it’s enjoyment. The aroma is divine I can truly sense the “hybrid” nature of this beer wafting over the rim, you can sense all of the malty and hoppy goodness. The first taste is all hop bitters, the malt can be sensed about halfway through the tasting when it warms a bit in your mouth. A delightful brew! For people “a-scurred” of hops do not think this a tame IPA. You can taste the malts but it is definitely not a 50/50 marriage going on between the malt and hops… The hops win in this hybrid, even so, all-in-all a delightful brew!
