Pa-Gijs is a beer brewed for the village of Overmere where the revolt of the Belgian farmers began against the French in October 1798. To remember this uprising, a statue was built for which 2 men, De Pauw and Gijselinck were the models. The statue was rapidly called Pa-Gijs by the locals.
