Benefits of draft beer

Why freshly beer tap from the tap system simply has an advantage over bottled beer

If you want to enjoy a cold beer, you have the choice between bottled beer and freshly tapped beer on tap. Most people should make this decision fairly easy. Because even the best beer out of the bottle cannot keep up with the first-class taste of draft beer.

In the following, we explain why this is the case and what advantages draft beer can score with.

What is the difference between draft and bottle beer?

Basically, there is no difference between draft and bottle beer. Both containers contain exactly the same drink. Nevertheless, there are clear differences in taste that should hardly remain hidden from a beer lover.

This is mainly due to the different carbon dioxide content. This is around five percent higher for draft beer than for beer from the bottle. For this reason, a freshly tapped draft beer simply pearls nicer and of course tastes much more tangy.

The reason beer brewing do not simply increase the carbonation of their bottled beer is the associated increase in pressure. This would lead to problems when filling and possibly even cause the crown cap to be blown off the bottle.

A barrel, on the other hand, can withstand the higher pressure without any problems, so that the beer can contain more carbonic acid.

Draft beer is better protected from light

As a rule, beer in Germany is brewed according to the German purity law. This means that only water, malt, hops and yeast may be used for production.

On the one hand, this ensures a high product quality, but on the other hand, it also makes the beer relatively susceptible to various environmental influences. Because, without artificial preservatives, chemical reactions can change the taste very easily.

In addition to heat and oxygen, light is one of the environmental influences that can damage beer and impair its taste. This so-called light taste is caused by the influence of the UV rays of sunlight.

The chemical reaction that takes place in the process does not pose a health risk. However, it creates a rancid aroma that significantly impairs beer enjoyment.

In order to protect the beer from this as good as possible, it is usually bottled in dark green or brown bottles. However, these only partially protect the content from the sun's rays, so that changes in taste can still occur.

With draft beer, on the other hand, it looks different. Here, the content is filled into a completely opaque barrel immediately after production. In this way, the beer is optimally protected until it is served.

A good beer tap is essential

Even if draft beer is generally at an advantage, it can definitely taste stale. However, this is not due to the draft beer itself, but to the tap system with which it is served.

Because the emptier the barrel, the more air it contains. This can cause the beer to lose its carbonic acid. To prevent this, it is necessary that there is a sufficiently high pressure in the beer barrel.

A good beer dispenser is easily able to guarantee this and to keep the carbonic acid content of the beer constant when serving.

In the case of party kegs for private celebrations, it usually looks different. Since these usually cannot simply be connected to a real tap system, an increasing loss of liveliness cannot be avoided.

Impurities are also a possible because that can impair the taste. Beer dispensers should therefore be cleaned regularly and properly.

Draft beer is more environmentally friendly

Compared to bottled beer, draft beer proves to be extremely environmentally friendly. It is easier to fill and the transport to the customer is usually shorter.

In addition, the cleaning of a keg compared to bottles, measured in terms of the amount of beer, involves significantly less effort.

These points are not directly related to product quality. Still, they are clearly another benefit that speaks for draft beer.

Advantages of draft beer - the most important things at a glance

As you can see, draft beer has many advantages over bottled beer. Draft beer contains more carbon dioxide and therefore tastes more tangy. In addition, it is better protected from harmful environmental influences such as sunlight and therefore usually stays fresh longer.

In addition, it turns out to be more environmentally friendly in direct comparison to bottled beer, which is certainly an important advantage in today's world.

Of course, you can only rely on a perfect taste experience if you pour your beer with a good tap system and clean it regularly. You can find a large selection of high-quality models in our online shop.
